Amistad is a portrait and interview-based project that explores the diversity of Latino identity through the experiences of six students on campus. Each participant comes from a distinct cultural background—including Mexican, Puerto Rican, Mexican-Guatemalan, Armenian-Salvadoran-Cuban, and Mexican-Irish—highlighting the wide range of histories and identities that exist within the Latino community. Through photographic portraits and personal interviews, the project examines how participants understand and articulate their own identities, emphasizing the complexity and multiplicity of Latino heritage. By bringing these perspectives together, Amistad seeks to challenge singular narratives of Latinidad and foreground the varied cultural experiences that shape the community.
